This month's tip is all about being unique in your to create sales and extra profits in your ice cream shop or store. If you're a frozen dessert store owner, serving ice cream, water ice, custard or gelato, you have to keep in mind these products are special. Typically, a family doesn't go to get ice cream every night, so when they do it's usually a special occasion, a special event or just a special treat for the week. Whether they spend $1 - $20 while there, the longer lasting and more important thing is the time they spend with their family while in your shop. You're creating memories for them that they can't get anywhere else. Be special in your presentation, delivery and packaging. Strive to be different from other places and create a unique destination that encourages families to shop at your store as opposed to going to your competitors or local grocery store for their ice cream. Here are some things to think about to try and be unique from the other players out there.
Be colorful. As an owner or operator of a frozen dessert store, you're surrounded by color. Use these colors to your advantage and display them throughout your packaging and branding. Some flavors of ice cream and water ice are extremely colorful and bright, displaying them in the right area of your store can really make them pop out to the consumer. Colors help build your brand as well so don't forget to think about incorporating color into your everyday things like your uniform and menus.
Be Social. Being social is more than just sending out a few social media posts a month. Sure it's great to be on as many social media channels as you can and post as often as you can but we all know that social media isn't actually that social. Being social also means interacting with your customers in person. Get out from behind the counter and talk to customers and interact with them. The simple act of holding a door for someone is enough to separate you from others.
Be happy. You're in the business of selling happiness. The last thing customers want is to come into your colorful ice cream shop and be served by a miserable, non-smiling customer. Be smiling, thankful and welcoming to your customer and it will go a long way.
Be artisanal. Being artisanal means that you're not just serving the regular every day flavors that your customers can get anywhere else. Create unique and different flavors, experiment with recipes to create new and exciting products. Don't just stick with the traditional flavors of chocolate and vanilla, explore different seasonal flavors throughout the year to mix it up for your customers.
